EU Member State Latvia bans Baltic pride event

14/05/2009 – Amnesty International is concerned that permission for the Baltic pride event, scheduled to take place in Riga this Saturday 16 May, has been revoked at the last minute by the Riga City Council (RCC), despite prior agreement between the organizers, the City Council and the police on the march’s venue and the necessary security arrangements.

13/05/2009 – On the fourth anniversary of the mass killings in Andizhan in 2005, Amnesty International calls on the EU to use all opportunities available to continue to demand an independent international investigation into these events.

08/05/2009 – The EU-Cuba Troika on 11 May 2009 will take place almost a year after the political dialogue which recommenced between the EU and Cuba, following the lifting of EU measures against Cuba in June 2008. It is important that this meeting sends a strong signal that the EU remains committed about putting human rights at the centre of this dialogue.

07/05/2009 – (Brussels, 7 May) The EU must urgently raise the issue of recent widespread human rights abuse in Moldova, says Amnesty International ahead of the Eastern Partnership Summit in Prague where the EU will forge closer ties with Moldova and five other former Soviet states.
