16/04/2015 – I am writing to you about Amnesty International’s concerns on human rights in Uzbekistan and to ask you to schedule a Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) discussion and conclusions on Uzbekistan.

It’s an open secret that anyone who falls out of favour with the authorities can be detained and tortured in Uzbekistan.

14/04/2015 – Secrets and Lies: Forced confessions under torture in Uzbekistan, reveals how rampant torture and other ill-treatment plays a “central role” in the country’s justice system and the government’s clampdown on any group perceived as a threat to national security.

We urge all sides in the conflict to treat any detainees humanely according to the Geneva Conventions.

Torture is no laughing matter, even if police in the Philippines have tried to reduce it to a game.
