Libya: Rule of Law or Rule of Militas?

05/07/2012 – Since the end of the conflict that ended the rule of Colonel Mu’ammar al-Gaddafi, Libya has been characterised by increasing lawlessness, fuelled by an inability or unwillingness on the part of the transitional authorities to rein in the hundreds of militias formed during and after the 2011 conflict. Murders, arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances and torture are increasing and often used for purposes of revenge.
