22/10/2009 – On 8 July 2009, the European Commission presented a proposal for a Council Framework Decision1 on the right to interpretation and to translation in criminal proceedings (the proposal). On 15 July the Swedish EU Presidency published a draft resolution which contains directions for Member States with a view to promoting the effective implementation of the rights contained in the Commission’s proposal (the resolution).

30/09/2009 – Letter to Karel De Gucht accompanying the Amnesty International report : “No place for us here: Violence against refugee women in eastern Chad”.
Amnesty International and a group of fourteen leading European NGOs wrote to EU Foreign Ministers urging them to address serious inconsistencies in their approach to the Middle East Peace Process. They denounced the fact that the EU has failed to unambiguously support an independent inquiry into the Gaza conflict, in contrast with its active support for such investigations into other recent conflicts, for instance Sri Lanka and Georgia.
Marcelo Freixo, a long standing human rights defender arrived in Brussels this Friday, ahead of the EU-Brazil Summit taking place on 6 October.
