International Migrants Day: Rights of migrants under attack across the globe
Political decision-makers need to show leadership by ensuring the human rights of migrants are protected, instead of taking cheap shots through scaremongering tactics

The court must fully recognize the hate intent behind the assault in considering this case – that will send a strong message that racism and discrimination will not be tolerated and will help protect Roma people across Greece from further attacks.
Sending people straight back to Morocco without any procedural safeguards is a clear breach of European and international human rights law.
The court had two options, and its choice was not in favour of justice and human rights. Its disheartening decision is in line with the prevailing tendency promoted by the Russian government to stamp its authority on any civil society activity. It sets a dangerous precedent which could be used against other NGOs
Our investigation shows that the Golden Dawn debacle is only the tip of the iceberg. Entrenched racism, excessive use of force and deep-rooted impunity are a blight on the Greek police. Successive Greek governments have so far failed to acknowledge, let alone tackle, these human rights violations by police and on-going impunity.
01/04/2014 – Amnesty International’s submission on France on the occasion of ECRI’s fifth country monitoring cycle mainly focuses on the discrimination, violence and harassment experienced by Roma migrants. Our research has shown that Roma in France continue to experience widespread discrimination. They are not only forcibly evicted, denied equal access to housing, segregated in schools and given a substandard education, but are also targets of harassment and violence. The document also provides information on the existence and implementation by France of legal provisions relevant to ECRI’s mandate and contains Amnesty International’s concerns about discrimination against Muslims on the ground of religion or belief and against transgender individuals in France.
12/02/2014 – “Ethnic cleansing” of Muslims has been carried out in the western part of the Central African Republic, the most populous part of the country, since early January 2014. 1 Entire Muslim communities have been forced to flee, and hundreds of Muslim civilians who have not managed to escape have been killed by the loosely organised militias known as anti-balaka.
12/02/2014 – As a group of international and European human rights and development organisations, we the undersigned are concerned about the deteriorating human rights and humanitarian situation in the occupied Gaza Strip. In the context of ongoing discussions on European Union (EU) joint policy towards Gaza, we call on the European Union to urge Israel to lift the unlawful closure of the Gaza Strip, and demand that all parties comply with their obligations under international law.
Too often, we see little to no action by member states’ authorities to thoroughly acknowledge, investigate and prosecute the hate motive behind these attacks. Friday’s conclusions failed to put forward concrete EU measures to help combat hate crime in member states, and protect the victims
