As winter looms, the sight of thousands of refugees sleeping rough as they make their way through Europe represents a damning indictment of the European Union’s failure to offer a forward thinking and coordinated response to the refugee crisis

Scrutiny of the human rights situation in Hungary has repeatedly fallen through the cracks, with member states and institutions endlessly passing the buck on who is ultimately responsible for upholding human rights in the EU.

Without much more concrete and immediate assistance to frontline countries, the chaotic and tragic scenes we have witnessed in recent weeks will only continue and likely worsen.

This isn’t migration management; it’s an erosion of humanity.
