Amnesty International launches YES campaign for marriage equality
Love does not discriminate, and neither should our laws.
Love does not discriminate, and neither should our laws.
16/03/2015 – The European Court of Human Rights ruling striking down a sterilisation requirement for transgender individuals who wish to access gender reassignment surgery is an encouraging step towards equality for transgender people in Europe.
Northern Ireland’s draconian abortion law is the harshest in Europe.
22/01/2015 – 07/11/2014 – Amnesty International does not consider that the recent legislative and regulatory changes introduced by the Irish authorities satisfy the European Court of Human Rights’ Grand Chamber judgment in this case, as they do not effectively guarantee women and girls access to those abortion services which are in fact legal. It thus urges the Committee of Ministers to continue monitoring the implementation of A. B. and C. v. Ireland until the judgment is fully implemented.
The root causes of gender-based violence and restrictions of women and girls’ sexual and reproductive rights are the same – systematic gender discrimination rooted in patriarchal structures that control women and girls’ choices and freedoms.
The EU must step up and strengthen its standards on hate crime. This is key to ensuring that any discriminatory motive is duly taken into account across the whole of the EU.
The UK is signed up to international agreements to protect women and girls rights to life and health. This should mean all women and girls in the UK, not just some of us.
29/08/2014 – In its submission, Ammesty International takes the position that the general measures the Polish Government reports having taken do not adequately execute the European Court of Human Rights’ judgment with respect to its obligation to ensure access to lawful abortion.
AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL
06/06/2014 – Amnesty International today expressed concern that the definition of marriage included in a new constitutional amendment contravenes international and European human rights law, and will discriminate against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) individuals on the ground of their sexual orientation.
It’s outrageous that in 2014 authorities around the world are failing to legislate against or investigate homophobic and transphobic hate crimes. Even more grating is the fact that in many countries LGBTI people are themselves the target of criminal charges and state violence. Everyone should be able to enjoy all their human rights without discrimination, including on grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity.
