09/07/2009 – Ahead of the Council working group discussions on a roadmap for procedural safeguards, Amnesty International, FTI, JUSTICE, OSJI and ICCL call on a clear commitment to adopt legally binding instruments for each fair trial right proposed. We also urge the Council to ensure that these objectives are incorporated into the Stockholm Programme to be adopted at the end of the year, in order to provide the highest political endorsement of the importance of procedural safeguards for achieving a genuine area of freedom, security and justice.
