Launch of new report on Search and Rescue in the Mediterranean

(Brussels, 21 April) Tomorrow, on Wednesday 22 April Amnesty International will release a new report, Europe’s Sinking Shame. The Failure to Save Refugees and Migrants at Sea. This report follows the recent tragedies in the Mediterranean Sea, and will be released ahead of the emergency European Summit in Brussels on Thursday 23 April.

The report provides in-depth analysis of the current crisis, and survivor testimonies from the first three months of 2015. It details how current search and rescue operations are far from what is required to address the humanitarian crisis currently unfolding in the Mediterranean.

Amnesty International is calling for an immediate, robust and concerted search and rescue operation to be put in place by European Union member states.
