EU-Russia Summit: A briefing on current human rights concerns, June 2008
26/06/2008 – Amnesty International is deeply concerned about entrenched problems relating to human rights in Russia. We believe that the EU should use the opportunity of the EU-Russia Summit to raise once again issues that were discussed at the recent EU-Russia human rights consultations, mainly the decline of the space for freedom of expression, the ongoing human rights crisis in the North Caucasus and the general problem of the lack of rule of law . The EU should also urge President Medvedev to take action in order to achieve lasting, substantive improvements in terms of legislative, policy and administrative changes which ultimately will lead to a better protection of human rights of all people in the Russian Federation.
