06/04/2005 – 30 cases of young people who were subjected, or allegedly subjected, to serious human rights violations by French police officers between 1991 and 2005. Such violations included unlawful killings, excessive use of force, torture or ill-treatment and racist abuse.

09/12/2004 – The objective of the instrument described in the Green Paper is to ‘reinforce the right to liberty and the presumption of innocence in the European Union as a whole… and would decrease unequal treatment of non-resident suspected persons’ . Amnesty International supports this objective and welcomes the exploration of methods by which this objective can best be taken forward.

Amnesty International today calls on the EU to step up its financial and legal support for the fight against trafficking in women, following the release of a new Amnesty report detailing the suffering of women who are trafficked and forced into prostitution in Kosovo.

The submission includes a brief note on general EU concerns and a set of country reports for EU and candidate countries which will form part of Amnesty International’s report “Concerns in Europe and Central Asia”.

Brussels (30 Sept.) As EU foreign ministers meet today to decide the EU’s response to US bilateral agreements aimed at exempting US personnel from the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, Amnesty International has handed the Danish foreign minister, Per Stig Moller, the results of its global petition calling on all governments to refuse to enter into any agreement that grants effective immunity from prosecution for crimes under international law.

On the eve of Denmark’s accession to the Presidency of the European Union, Amnesty International has addressed a detailed memorandum to the Danish EU Presidency with proposals for improving the EU’s human rights record, both within Europe and beyond its borders.
