Colombia: Amnesty International Briefing to the European Union
In the lead-up to Thursday’s meeting on International Support for Colombia, in which the European Commission, and representatives of EU Member States will participate, Amnesty International has called on the EU to guarantee that any further aid to Colombia will not be diverted to activities or groups which may contribute to the worsening human rights crisis in the country.

The Justice and Home Affairs Council of 5-6 June 2003 is due to approve the EU-US Agreements on Extradition and on Mutual Legal Assistance, Amnesty International releases its own analysis which points to serious concerns and omissions.

On the eve of the summit in Copenhagen between European Union leaders and the Chinese prime minister Zhu Rongji, Amnesty International calls on the EU to put an end to the situation where the so-called dialogue on human rights is in effect a monologue which China ignores. Amnesty International urges the Danish EU Presidency to convey to the Chinese leadership that it will no longer accept a dialogue that produces no results whatsoever.
