09/07/2015 – Amnesty International wishes to urgently draw your attention to the risk of imminent forced evictions in Nairobi, Kenya, which risks taking place under the European Union (EU) funded ‘Missing Link 15 B’ road construction project. Over 1000 families residing in the Deep Sea settlement in Westlands, Nairobi, Kenya, are at risk of human rights violations in the absence of adequate human rights safeguards, and ahead of the evictions that would start from 8 July 2015 onward, as announced by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).

With the peak summer crossing months now upon us, European governments can’t falter in their pledges to prevent more tragedies at sea.

08/07/2015 – The measures introduced by the European Union in April 2015 to strengthen search and rescue capacity in the central Mediterranean, following the closure of Italy’s Operation Mare Nostrum at the end of 2014, have resulted in a significant decrease in the death rate of migrants and refugees taking this perilous route into Europe.

Serbia and Macedonia have become a sink for the overflow of refugees and migrants that nobody in the EU seems willing to receive.

03/07/2015 – Europe’s borderlands: Violations against migrants and refugees in Macedonia, Serbia and Hungary, finds that an increasing number of vulnerable people are being left stranded in legal limbo across the Balkans. The situation is exacerbated by push-backs or deportations at every border, restricted access to asylum en route and a lack of safe and legal routes into the EU.

The EU-China Summit offers a crucial opportunity to put human rights at the top of discussions, and move forwards with clear action.

29/06/2015 – On the day of the EU-China Summit, Amnesty International has joined forces with the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), Human Rights Watch and the International Campaign for Tibet to call on the EU and China to ensure human rights lead the Summit discussions.

International media coverage of the crackdown has held a mirror up to Azerbaijan and showed the world that the country has something very shameful it wants to hide.
