Amnesty International today called on the EU Council of Ministers to develop ways in which accountability at EU level for human rights abuses within EU borders can be addressed, following the release today of a new report alleging abuses by police officers in Germany.

10/12/2003 – Amnesty International welcomes the European Commission Communication on the application of Article 7 TEU in October 2003 as a first step towards acceptance of a key element in Article 7 TEU, that of adequate monitoring of the situation regarding fundamental rights in the EU in order to recognise risks and actual breaches of fundamental rights as they arise within the EU.
