Report: Kosovo: Time for EULEX to prioritize war crimes

26/04/2012In June 2012, the Council of the European Union will approve the extension of the mandate of the EU-led rule of law mission in Kosovo, (EULEX). In this report, Amnesty International advocates that the new mandate should include specific measures to ensure that EULEX, as a matter of urgency, prioritizes the investigation and prosecution of crimes under international law, including war crimes and crimes against humanity.

If the EU China High Level People to People Dialogue on culture is to lead to “concrete actions that are to determine a positive evolution of our societies, in the full respect of their highly valued diversity”, human rights must be at the heart of discussions. We urge the EU to use every opportunity to call on China to fully respect, promote and protect the right to freedom of expression, assembly and association, as well as cultural rights, in particular of ethnic minorities.

Letter to Ashton on Ethiopian Civil Society: Calling for amendment of repressive laws

Amnesty International’s report ‘Stifling human rights work: The impact of civil society legislation in Ethiopia’ documents how human rights organisations in the country have been silenced through repressive legislation. The EU’s attempts to raise concerns through diplomatic channels have not yielded results, and we therefore urge the EU to speak out more robustly.
